Fall Season Favorites Throughout Michigan

October 7, 2021

The beginning of fall brings a sense of change. When the first frost covers the ground, it feels as if the world has momentarily pressed pause. It is in both ways, a time of reflection and a time of action.  Norfolk Homes has put together a list of fall activities to explore the splendor that is  Michigan!  Read on to see what you can do this fall season.

Big City Affairs

Sometimes the best events are worth a longer drive.

Browsing local farmers markets isn’t only a summer staple. Take advantage of the time before the snow falls to continue enjoying all of the local delicacies an area has to offer. Pick up some local produce and beautifully hand-crafted artwork at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, and stop by booths at two of the top 10 ranked farmers markets in the United States—Eastern Market in Detroit and the Flint, Michigan Farmers Market.

Touring a winery is another great way to fill the day with little planning on your part. With over 100 wineries now scattered across the state, there are plenty of opportunities to visit a variety this season. Sample the crisp white wines at Bonobo Winery in Traverse City, Michigan or break into your adventurous side with some cherry wine options at the French Valley Vineyards in Suttons Bay, Michigan.

For those seeking a musical experience this fall season, you can never go wrong with a trip to Detroit. If you’re looking for something a bit more classical, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Opera House are always brimming with talent. The Fox Theatre and The Fillmore Detroit are also known for drawing in a variety of talented artists year round.

Pumpkins, Cider and Corn Mazes

It wouldn’t be fall without pumpkin patches, hot apple cider and never-ending corn mazes. Luckily, there are plenty of opportunities to fill that need across Michigan.

The Wiard’s Orchards and Country Fair in Ypsilanti, Michigan boasts a corn maze, pedal races, animal petting farm and a variety of photo opportunities as well. Before you head home, take the opportunity to select the perfect pumpkins to carve for Halloween.

If you’re in the mood for a morning stroll through an apple orchard followed by an afternoon music session, head to Alber Orchard & Cider Mill in Manchester, Michigan for a full day of fall activities for the family.

Outdoor Activities

Sometimes a peek outside your window is the only incentive you need to jump in your car for a drive or break out your hiking boots to see Michigan’s breathtaking terrain surrounding the state during autumn.

For some of the most beautiful views, head to Porcupine Mountains State Park. Take in the scenery with a hike through the foliage or drive the many waterfall routes the park has to offer. Take the time to stop at any scenic overlooks while you’re there for the perfect photo opportunities.

Sleeping Bear Dunes is another state park gem that Michigan has to offer. On the shore of Lake Michigan, you can enjoy amazing views of the water while hiking through the park’s trails. Spend the night camping under the starry sky or take a quick bike ride on the Heritage Trail before heading to a new location. You won’t be sorry you stopped.
