One of the things we love about building homes in Southeast Michigan is how much there is to explore beyond your own backyard. From the energy of downtown Ann Arbor to quiet small towns, Great Lakes beaches and lively cities, you can change the scenery without planning a week-long vacation.

For homeowners in our new home communities in Ann Arbor, Saline, Jackson, Marshall, Hamburg Township and the surrounding areas, that variety is part of the lifestyle. You can spend Saturday morning at home, head out for an adventure after lunch and still be back in time for dinner.

Here are a few of our favorite ideas for your next day trip.

Detroit: A City Full of Things to Discover

From our new homes in the Ann Arbor area, Detroit makes an easy day trip, and there’s more than enough to fill the day.

Spend the morning exploring the Detroit Institute of Arts, wander through Eastern Market or take a walk along the Detroit Riverfront. Sports fans can catch a game, while food lovers can explore the city’s ever-growing restaurant scene.

It’s one of those destinations where you can visit again and find something completely different to do.

Frankenmuth: A Little Bavaria in Michigan

Looking for something that feels like a getaway without actually going very far? Head north to Frankenmuth.

Known as Michigan’s “Little Bavaria,” Frankenmuth combines German-inspired architecture, local shops, restaurants and plenty of family-friendly attractions. Of course, no visit would be complete without stopping at Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, which is open year-round.

For families living in new construction homes near Ann Arbor or Saline, it’s an especially fun option when you want a full day of exploring without venturing too far from home.

Holland: A Change of Scenery on Lake Michigan

When you’re craving sunshine, water and a little more of a vacation feeling, point the car west.

Grand Rapids is another worthwhile day trip for homeowners in the Ann Arbor and Jackson areas. Spend the day exploring downtown, visit Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, grab lunch at a local restaurant or make an afternoon of the city’s craft beverage scene.

At roughly a couple of hours away, it’s close enough for a spontaneous Saturday but different enough to feel like you’ve actually gone somewhere.

Don’t Overlook the Places Close to Home

Of course, some of the best day trips don’t require much planning at all. The communities surrounding our new homes in Ann Arbor, MI have plenty to offer. Chelsea, Dexter, Saline and Manchester each have their own character, from downtown shops and restaurants to parks, trails and outdoor recreation. The Ann Arbor area itself is known for its arts, culture, dining, parks and access to the Huron River.
