Family-Friendly Floor Plans

September 22, 2020

Every homebuilder you come across will tout their family-friendly floor plans—but family means something different to everyone, and Norfolk Homes understands and respects that. So when we mention helping find the perfect home for your family, know that we recognize families come in all shapes and sizes. Whether it consists of young or grown children, two adults with no children, multigenerational extended family members, a single adult or another unique situation, we really do have a floor plan that will meet your needs.

At Norfolk, we split our floor plans into three main categories to help buyers find the right fit from the start. These include one-, one-and-a-half and two-story plans, as well as multi-family and single-family homes. We will explore the benefits of each below and how they complement your wants and needs.

Single-level homes for safety and size

One-story floor plans offer everything your family desires on a single level, without having to worry about stairs or separation. With one floor, your square footage is kept to a manageable amount that still allows for ample room that your family can live comfortably in now and even grow in for years to come. This is a perfect option for families that include young children who you need to keep an eye on, for older couples with grown children looking to right-size their home or for any family members who struggle with accessibility.

With nine single-story ranch plans to choose from ranging in size from 1,386 square feet to 2,492 square feet, one level doesn’t mean compromising on space. In addition to the two or three bedrooms, each home features kitchens with islands, mudrooms, master suites and  functional flow to other living spaces. All plans have an option for a finished basement adding an additional bedroom and full bath. Additional options such as three car garages, sunrooms and decks are plan and community specific.

One-and-a-half stories for flexibility

Ranch-style homes get a lot of things right, but sometimes you need a little extra space—and maybe some separation. If you want the convenience of a first-floor master but don’t necessarily want other family members sleeping or playing off the main space, consider a one-and-a-half-story home. By not adding a full second story, these floor plans often feature impressive two story ceilings  that give way to open, lofted spaces plus additional bedrooms on the second level. Norfolk Homes currently has three floor plans available in this category, all containing three or four bedrooms and built in our sought-after communities or on your preferred lot.

Two-story homes for extra accommodations

Much like one-and-a-half-story homes, two levels can help you achieve the maximum use out of your home when you have a larger family, or need an additional space like a home office or gym that’s separate from the action on the main floor. Whether you intend to fill the second-floor space with children, visitors or a workspace, these plans give you the space to do so.

Due to their popularity, Norfolk has 12 two-story floor plans to choose from. With three or four bedrooms all on the upper level, open-concept main floors and two- or three-car garages, we know you’ll have the space to fit everyone—and everything—you care about into these beautifully crafted homes.

Bonus: Three story urban townhomes for close-knit community

In addition to our single-family communities, Norfolk Homes is proud to offer a modern townhome community at Blue Heron Pond Townhomes. The benefits of townhome living are endless, and you’ll find just how well your family can thrive in a three-story space in one of our homes. Both plans are over 2,000 square feet, have three-and-a-half bathrooms and three bedrooms—one of which resides by itself on the top floor, making it the ideal space for a playroom, home office or second family room.

Our first meeting with Lynn at Norfolk Homes set the tone for the entire experience! She was supportive while being direct and honest which was so helpful in the initial decision making. She also worked seamlessly with our realtor making our job as the buyer super simple! Our experience at the design studio was similar. The designer was patient and friendly, giving us the space to make our decisions that were so important in building the home we'd envisioned. Interacting with the builder Mike was equally positive! He anticipated our questions and honored our requests without hesitation. After working with the team to plan our home, it was built as quickly as possible and met every expectation! Icing on the cake, Mike still checks on us, offering help and friendly guidance as we navigate being new home owners. If you’re considering building, you’ll be at home with Norfolk!
