How to Prepare for Your First Design Studio Meeting

October 28, 2020

You’ve picked your ideal community, selected your perfect floor plan, signed a purchase agreement and are ready to watch your Norfolk Homes build come to life—do you have an exact vision in mind, or do you need help finding design inspiration? We’ve been helping new home buyers create beautiful, functional spaces for years and our in-house interior designer will guide you through the process of selecting premium interior finishes to reflect your personality and taste while keeping up with current trends. We’ve detailed a few things to keep in mind when preparing for your first official design studio meeting.

Know your budget

One of our goals at Norfolk Homes is to ensure the financial aspect of the home buying process goes as smoothly and seamlessly as possible. That’s why we have partnered with full-service preferred financial lenders to help you understand the financial process of buying a home and learn just how much you can afford based on income, market rates and other factors. We know how frustrating it is when other builders tell you they’ll stick to your budget, and then you end up with unexpected charges or unrealistic expectations. We’ll work with you and your budget to determine the quality of finishes that can go in your home without pushing you over your price range.

Supply inspiration photos

When it comes to interior design, we know that some people are coming into their first meeting with an exact vision in mind and a Pinterest board full of ideas. There’s also buyers who want a lot of guidance—maybe they know one finish or feature they like but need help building out a complementary palette around it. We’re always happy to work with both types of buyers, as the interior design process is very personal and can sometimes be overwhelming. At Norfolk Homes, we’ve curated a collection of finishes to help make the process easier and enjoyable for every type of buyer. Supplying inspiration photos and even videos can help Riley King, our interior designer, understand the color palette and overall style you’re hoping to achieve in your new home. The best places to find inspiration are Pinterest, social media platforms like Instagram and Tik Tok, home design websites and even television shows. Have a friend or family member with great taste? Bring photos or videos of the parts of their home you like, too. You can also check out our photo and video gallery for inspiration.

Bring furniture samples

If you’re buying new furniture for your home or bringing already-owned pieces to the new place, we can work with those samples as well. Whether it’s a wooden dining room table you’d like to serve as a focal point, a new leather sofa or even your dream curtains, we can curate a palette that will complement your furniture and accent pieces to make your space cohesive and match your personal style.

Trust the experts

Norfolk Homes has been setting the benchmark for new home communities in the Greater Ann Arbor Area since 1993. We believe that your home is an intricate part of who you are, and we aim to make that process as simple as possible. We offer preview tours with Riley prior to even signing your purchase agreement, so you can make sure that we have the finishes you’re looking for. After signing your purchase agreement and fully committing to a Norfolk Homes build, you’ll receive six hours of design time with Riley to assist you through the selection process to fit your budget and complement your lifestyle. Take a virtual tour of our design studio to get a taste of what we offer and reach out today to get started on the process of buying and designing your ideal home.

We had our closing yesterday and it was a smooth process. We will like to thank Lisa and the whole team at Norfolk Homes for getting things done on time and thanks for the excellent gift basket.
