Top Summer Trends for Your Outdoor Living Space

May 11, 2022

Summer is fast approaching, and in the Greater Ann Arbor area, that means it’s about time to break out the patio furniture for nights spent under the stars. At Norfolk Homes, we understand how important it is to have the perfect outdoor patio or deck.  In designing our homes, the  architectural team integrated the outdoors with the indoors by providing transitional spaces for  outdoor living opportunities. Like most living areas, it’s important to make sure you bring your own personal style into the space, so read on to see what new trends you can perfectly pair with your Norfolk Home this summer season.

Continue the design from your home interior

Keeping the same style as you transition from your main living room to your outdoor patio space creates a cohesive look throughout your home that is effortlessly chic. One way to accomplish this look is to ensure that you are using the same color schemes within your design features, so if your main living room is focused on light pastels, this can easily be replicated with your outdoor furniture as well. By adding in some accent lighting and an outdoor area rug, you will easily be able to create an outdoor space that is as cozy and welcoming as your indoor living area.

Let nature take the lead

Turning toward natural elements in your outdoor space goes a long way toward creating a rustic look that will be the talk of the neighborhood. For this, it’s best to focus on warm colors to truly capture the look. Having splashes of olive green on a pillow or deep maroon on an outdoor rug would perfectly complement a soft leather chair and rich wooden table.

Create an intimate setting

Having an open backyard is a great way to step out of your comfort zone and meet some more of your neighbors. Sometimes, though, having the option for a little privacy in your outdoor living space is exactly what you need. With an incredible amount of privacy screens available today, you won’t have to worry about them clashing with your main design, and you will easily be able to find a high-end screen that simply looks like decoration but still gives you plenty of privacy when you want it.

Start a farm-to-table tradition

Although this is not necessarily a patio piece, having a sustainable farm-to-table garden within your backyard living space creates an incredibly inviting and colorful area for the whole family to enjoy—and better yet, to help with. Having a garden with fresh produce is a great way to get everyone in your family involved in keeping up with a healthy lifestyle while at the same time, doing something fun and new together.
